Too many newly divorced or widowed single moms slide into poverty, domestic violence or depression because they don't know where to turn for help and don't have the confidence to tackle the world alone, said Dotti Durtschi. She's the director of a magazine for single mothers called Synergy, set to launch in November.
The publication's aim is to help moms take charge of their finances, improve their education, take care of children and grow self-esteem through community involvement.
At a single mom's rally attended by as many as 30 individuals and hosted by the magazine at Sugar House Park on Saturday, co-founder Celina Milner said she didn't know where to start when she was divorced six years ago.
